William Morris
William Morris (1834-1896) was the greatest designer and craftsman of the Arts & Crafts Movement (founded in 1887) influencing some of the most magnificent and fashionable products of the 19th Century. Morris placed great value on the joy of craftsmanship and the natural beauty of materials pioneered by the Arts & Crafts movement which eventually emerged in Japan as the Mingei Movement. Today, some 120 years after his death, William Morris’ legacy lives on and the business he established continues to create, market and sell interior decoration coupled with an excellence of design style founded on his aesthetic strategy. Contained within his lecure, ‚The History of Pattern Designing‘ is his most famous quotation: „Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful“ which still has significance today.
